Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at  hennie@exnovo.tech if you cannot find an answer to your question.

We offer Innovation & Technology Strategy consulting services. Our core focus is building Innovation, Technology & Organizational Capability roadmaps and setting up Operating Models and Processes in support (e.g. Portfolio Management and Stage Gate).

Anyone who can benefit from the founder's broad experience and network, but start-up and early stage companies in particular can benefit by fast tracking all the learnings gleaned over more than three decades in industry and in board rooms around the globe, from start-up to scaled businesses, emerging to developed markets and high growth to mature markets.

The duration of a consulting project varies depending on the scope and complexity of the project. We will work with you to determine a timeline that meets your needs.

Ex Novo was founded by Hennie Myburgh after 32 years experience with leading Global Food, Beverage and Cannabis organizations. These industries are our core consulting focus areas, but learnings and principles are transferrable to other industries.

Hennie has category experience across a broad range of product forms, ingredient/packaging/processing technologies, and shelf life/temperature states of products  (see home page for examples).

Project steps depend on the scope of a project, however, typical steps include:

  1. An enterprise or portfolio strategy: we require this guidance from the client, since the Innovation & Technology Strategy will be designed to provide solutions to clearly articulated enterprise needs (i.e. claims, benefits and/or jobs-to-be-done).
  2. Ideation & Concept: generate ideas, concepts and early "protocepts" that are laser focused against enterprise needs.
  3. Technology scouting: identify specific technology unlocks to enable concepts.
  4. Strategic filter: identify lead Innovation & Technology candidates based on a high level business case assessment.
  5. Capability & Capacity plan: identify strategic capabilities (e.g. talent, infrastructure) and headcount required to deliver the strategy.
  6. Operating Model: identify Build vs. Borrow vs. Buy opportunities, keeping in mind broader ecosystem capabilities and strategic partnerships across the value chain, as well as Agile Innovation techniques and governance required to enable the model.
  7. Process: identify critical processes needed to execute the strategy and transform the operating model. Examples include governance processes and forums (e.g. Portfolio Management), conventional Stage Gate vs. self-directed Agile Innovation processes, and continuous scouting and ecosystem management (e.g. Venturing).
